Oct 27th Politeness
Not much to do online today for class, sorry. I do want to start off the class with a short exercise. What sorts of public behavior do you find to be rude? Discuss this in small groups for a few minutes, then I will ask you to briefly write down a response to this on the forum (giving you about 5-10minutes to write). We will then discuss these ideas.
Your photo homework due this week is 'October' I think. For next week (the photo due Saturday, November 5th) is 'what I will do/what I am doing over the short vacation.'

I feel uncomfortable when people using cell phone with loud talking in train or bus.
It is rude for me.
If people are E-mailing or talking with small voice,it's o-kay.
not acknowledging (looking down) when you pass someone on an uncrowded sidewalk/walkway.
talking loudly on a cell phone in a train, or anywhere. actually using a cell phone in general is pretty rude all the time. Very unfriendly.
sleeping in class (very rude) oh wait, is that public?
sleeping on me when we ride the train! how rude!
touching my bottom on the train! how dare you!
drivers who don't check the sidewalks before entering traffic. I have almost been killed many times on my bike this way.
surrounding my child and poking her when she is out walking (i would think that would be frightening if a group of people did that to me)
sucking teeth in public -- why is this such a common passtime on the train?
The act of rude:
Not taking off the hat in front of the people or in the class or room.
throwing cigarette.
spitting out on the street.
making a noise like cellphone sound in the train.
too much volume of ear-phone in the crowded space.
not to do greeting.
squeeze in the line.
Last night I found some students sitting and eating along s street near Ariwsawa hospital. They didn't care about cars going through at all, and they looked to be drunk. Some drivers got angry to see them, then I was little ashamed because they seemed to be students at Kansai Gaidai. They are not child anymore, so they should think about morals.
Talking of bad behavior are these. For example, to talk with people by a celler phone, speak aloud, put one's bag into next seat in the train. It's abstract, but to not say thank you when someone give something to one's.
sleep or eat in class...
making noise in public space
using cell phone while someone talking
too much familior or friendly attitude to someone who meet first, boss or older people
no greeting
being late
call someone late at night
I think it's rude to :
speak loudly with cell phone,
sit anywhere like floor in the train,
smoke,
break the line at the station,
and eat something in the train.
I think eating hunberger and speakeing loudly in the train are rude. To throw out rubbish in the public place is rude. To throw out the ash which was smoked is rude.
I think it is a rude behavior that one person try to break the line at the register in shops. One day, a man came to my cash desk ignoring the line already made. In addition, when I told him to wait until I finished those customers in line before you came, he got angry...All I could do was just calmed down his furious with apology. In my experience, some old men tend to do that... Maybe they can't wait only a few minutes!!
"Rude"
In a train, talking loudly and calling with mobile phones are really bad behaviors.
When we talk with people (usually older than us), we should use words to respect them, such as desu, masu, gozaimasu. If we don't, we will be considered as rude.
People sitting on ground outside are really rude!! Recently, they don't care where they are sittig on now. We can see the situation in a train easily too.
I think that the people who is talking loudly in front of people is very rude. It is bad behaviour to someone who is in public places such as train, bus and cinema.
Do manner mode!!
To throw out the cigarette is also rude. It may cause a big fire even it is just a cigrette.
To throw away rubbish anywhere.
Talking laudoly on the train.
Skipping the person when people waiting in line.
To sit aisle on the train.
To eat or drink on the train.
To smoke in non smokimg area.

Sleeping, drinking, eating and talking in class is rude in Japan!
And in the train, people who are talking loudly are rude.
It is rude to push into the front of the line for the train.
I think that speaking loudly in public is rude. And I think it's rude walking with tabaco outside of the smoking area.
rude behavior
It's rude to cut in the line of waiting for train and in shops.
Talk loud voice and use cell phone(talking) in trains or buses.
To make up in a train or buses.
To throw away garbage on the street is rude. To talk with cellular in the train is rude. We don't smoke places where are not ashtrays. To late for the appointment is rude.
I think these examples are rude behaviors.
・Smoking while walking a street.
・Sitting in front of the convenience stores.
・Taking a lot of spaces on a train, bus etc.
・Sleeping in a class.
・Speaking with very loud voice at public area.
・Calling in the early morning, the late night.
There are many rude behaviors!
when a person is smoking in a street and throw it away, I think it's rude behavior. Many businessmen do this. It's really bad thing.
people in a train talk loud voice by mobile phone, it is rude.
Someting that makes other people feel offended and unconfortable. Today when I was sitting in the train, there was a stinky drunken old guy came in with strong alcohole smell. Everyone gazed at him once but nobody said anything, of course. He starded taking rabish. He said something like " I dont need a seat." and coming towards me. What he did was he jumped into a small gape between me and an old lady. Suddeny Everyone got unconfortable by his rude behavior. The old lady stood up and walked to the place where her husband was sitting, as if she was asking for a help. Then the drunken guy went to her and complained why she left the seat!!
Scott, my old friend, can you see my blog now? I am doing a presentation on blogs this Friday at the ATESL conference (the Alberta Teachers of English as a Second Language - oh what lofty heights I have reached since I returned!) Check me out . . . maybe some of your students want to say hi to some of mine, and visa versa?
Later!
